FIRST MATCII FOR SHIELD

The seven-a-side tournamerit for a Maori-carved shield was played at Otaki on Saturday, but did not create much interest due to lack of publicity. Only three teams competed, Otaki "A" defeating Otaki "C" by 8 points to 3. Tries were scored for the "A" team by Willie Johnson, which was converted by T. Gray, and J. Huff. For the losers Philiips scored. It was an even contest. The referees were Messrs. M. Johnson, M. Hakaraia and Engle. Chief among the backs were Willie Johnson, N. Gordon, Huff and B. Hakaraia, while i nthe forward division Enoka Bros., Engle and Tom Gray were prominent. The shield will be held for one year, while miniature cups will be presented to each player of the winning team.
