LUXURY FOOD IN NEW YORK SHOPS.
NEW YORK, April 17. New York shops have outdone themselves this week in an ostentatious show of luxury food. On display in hundreds of shops, advertised lavishly in the advertisement eohnnns, and publie.ised in uews and feature stories, arc confeetioners' concoctions to make you marvel and despair. There are liuge ehoeolate rabbits dripping with cream, ornamentations, lilies and nosegays of spun sugar, ehickens, roosters, s(juirrels and eggs of all shapes and sizes made of sweetstuffs. Shop windows are erammed with toffee and nuts; mints and i carainel; bars and bloeks of ehoeolate — milk, plain, raisin — encrusted and honey-flavoured, done up with fancy bows and ribbons, glistening eellophane packages and prieed at anything between 2/0 and 4/- (sterling).
