RUGBY FOOTBALL

~ in ' > OTAKI CLUB The comqnttee of the Otaki Football Club met on Thursday night, Mr. Vern Cahill, president, presiding, when flnal arrangements were made for the Otaki— Petone match to be played 011 the Otaki Domain on Easter Monday. It was stated that Rahui desired to play a match with Levin Wanderers at 1.30 or 2 p.m., and it was feared that this would interfere with Otaki s arrangements unless the match started punctually, and short spells played. It was stated that Rahui had given no notiflcation about the game, but after due conjsideration it was agreed to offer a small percentage of the gate takings to Rahui, Otaki to put on an early gate-keeper so that those desiring to witness the first match could pay and stay for the second, and thus see two games for the price of one. Arrangements were made with Messrs. Kelleher and Cahill for "showers" for the visiting players, who will lunch at the Telegraph and Central Hotels, and in the evening entertained at a buffet supper prior to their departure. No notiflcation having been given of the 7-a-side tournament to be held to-day it was decided to make no charge, but agreed that a collection be taken up. ' The matter of awarding. miniature cups for the winning players was agreed to, while a cup will also be given for the successful club. It was stated that the Maori-carved shield would not be finished for a time, but that it would be presented in due course. It was agreed that it would be advisable to exhibit the shield, which will be a valuable one, at the various towns in this district, and also in Wellington. By doing so it was considered this would be the means of attracting players for future games. It was thought that > by such games the Shield match would develop into a big affair, and thus prove an attraction for dis- _ tant parts. Two sets of jerseys, brown-and black, were submitted to the meeting, and approved, it being stated that at the present time green jerseys — the colour of the club — were unprocurable.
