IHAKARA MEETS
There was a good attendance of members at the April meeting of tiie Ihakara Women's Institute, .Mrs. Mark presiding. The resigna.ion of Mrs. Maclean, a foundation member, was received with regret. Addrfesses were handed in fbr parcels to be sent to members of J-Force, and it was decided to send two cakes to the institute's English mk, Hatfield -Hyde. Mrs. Mark was appointed as deie?ate to the July conference in Wellington, and Mesdames Turner and Armstrong to represent the institute at the council fneeting at Paraparaumu. Mesdames Ian Taylor and Ivan Taylor had charge of a very succecsful bring-and-buy stall. The institute's press reporter was congratulated upon gaining first place in the recent "Report Perfect" competition sponsored by Home and Country, the official organ of the N.Z. Women's Instifcutes. The guest speaker was Mr. Guy, superintendent . of the Levin Boys' Mental HoSpital' who gave a very ihteresting account of the work carried out by the institution. After listening to Mr. Guy's comprehensive talk, members decided to send magazines, comics and other reading matter from time to time to the hospital. Tfle winners of the various competitions were as follows: — Shrub: Mrs. Hudson 1, Mrs. Hibell 2, Mrs. R. J. Rolston 3. Flower: Mrs. Hall 1, Mrs. Brooks 2. Points: Mrs. Trotter 1, Mrs. R. J. Rolston 2, Mrs. Hiidson 3. Vegetable: Mrs. "Armstrong 1, Mrs. Trotter- 2, Mrs. .Gardiner 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Burling, Cottle, Doyle and Cotter.
