WELLINGTON, April 15. Twenty-six thousand four hundred golf balls will be available for New Zealand this year, ; aceording to infor-. matiou/ given by the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash), to the New Zealand Golf Association. Mr. Nash says licences have been granted to import sporting requisites from the United Kingdom during 1946 to the extent of 200 per cent. of valne oi' licences granted for 1945. Licences may also be ntilised for imports from Australia and are equivalent to the value for imports during 1938. Mr. Nash said that inquiries froin representatives of TJnited Kingdom manufacturers indicated that there was every possibility of reasonable quantities of golf balls beeoming available during this year. Oue shipment of 2000 dozen was already on its way. An application to import from Canada was refused in the light of this information as it was decided the expenditure of dollar funds for the importation of golf balls was unwarranted.
