Punters . on »the result of the Final Handicap at Addington reeently had n) fewer than eighteen chances of seeuring a dividend, yet they were left lamenting, as not one of the six horses forming the No. 9 bracket'finished in a place; and that despite the factxthat each and every oue of them posgessed .good prospects. This was the largest number of horses ever bracketed on the maeliine in the history of trotting in New Zealand, and the combination ineluded sueh well-performed pacers as Liberty Bond, Loyal King, Prince Grattan, Acropolis, Clarcmorris and Sea ,Born. Biggest Bracket of Past. The biggest bracket of horses that can be recalled from the past is four. In 1917, in the New Zealand Trotting Cup, the winner, Adelaide Direct, was eoiipled with Catliedral Cliimes, wliich finished second, Win Soon, and Soda. In the sanie race^ another bracket ineluded Author Dillon (third), Agathos (fourth) and J'ohn Dillon. Again in 1925 and 1927 the New Zealand Cup raee ineluded braekets of four horses. When Ahuriri won in 1925, he was coupled with Greai Bingen (second), Acron (third), am. Great Hope ( fourth). Two ycars later Eohara won, and he was coupled on the machine with Acron, Great Bingen (fourth) and Great Hope.
