FITMENTS IN DISGRACEFUL STATE
CONBITIONS AT SCHOOL FOR DEAF CHRISTCHURCH, April 16. W. Huggins, in a letter to the Principal of the school for deaf at Sumner, a eopv of which was sent to I the Christchurch Drainage Board. The j noard, after hearing the letter read this evening, decided to send a eopy of it | and of a report to be obtained from its inspector, to the Member of Parliament for the district, l\Ir. McCombs, with a request for liini to take the matter up with the appropriate authorities. In liis letter Mr. Huggins said that he had made an inspection of tlie school | because of the ineidenco of. scarlet fever. He aslced the Principal for immediate attention to the defects he discovered and for some assurartce that a repetition was not likely. The interior of tlie school buildings refleeted credit on the staff. Deseribing water closet blocks, Mr. Huggins said they wefe the worst he had ever seen. Oue closct x\Tas not fimctioning because the cisterii" was defective. Auother was bloclcerl with sewage to the riui level and a blockage from a third had been removed and left lying on tlie floor.
