AUCKLAND, April 15. The operation of a five-da-y weelc basis for work in the transport industry, will be a subject for consideration at the first mefcting of the council recently formed by tlfe New Zealand Transport Workers Federation, in Wellington on June 15 and 1(5. More than 30,000 workers are now affiliated with the federatioii tlirough their unions.4* The exeeutive of the federation has met to prepare recommendations for the conference. Tlie secretary, Mr. P. A. Hansen, said today that, in malcing recommendations for work on a five-dav week basis,. the exeeutive recognised always the nqeessity to stagger the five ;da.ys over seven days of the week in the transport industry. The recommendations includcd consideration of penalty rates for. Raturday and Sundav work. Just what penalty rates Should he. sought was for' the conference to d'etermine.
