RETIRING MATERNITY HOME MATRON Striking tributes to the yaluable- services given over a long period by the matron of the Otaki Maternity Honie (Mrs. ,F. E. Evans) ^ere paid by meinbers of the Palmerston North Hospital Board at a meeting in Palmerston North yestertlay, When tlie- impeilding retirement of Mrs. Evans was notified. The chairman (Mr. J. A. Nash) said Mrs. Evans had been in the board 's employ for 17 years, during which time she had endeared herself to all who had conthct with her. She had displayed outstanding devotion to duty at tlie time of the fire at the home, an/1 it was due to lier untiring efforts that the home was able to resume talcing patients so soon after the destruction ot a portion of the institution. Mrs. M. A. Aitchison, and Messrs. G. A. Monk, W. Howell, A. J. Gimblett and V. E. Smith also eulogised Mrs. Evan'S servic.es to the board. It was unanimously decided to grant Mrs. Evans six months' rctiring leave. Sister Joyce McMillan, at present m charge of the Foxton 'Maternity Home, has been appointed suecessor to Mrs. Evans at Otaki. Mr. M. E. Perreau said Foxton would be sorry to lose Sister McMillan, but would be pleased to liear of her promotion. - •
