LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

OTAKI DOMAIN Sir, — In reference to your report on the Otaki Football Club's meeting regardiiig the fence on the domain, I would like to ask Mr. Cahill why this proposal had the support.pf Ihe cricket club. Surely not to- keep half a dozen spectators from encroaehing on the |ield. Methinks just mere bluff for the council. . . I think it is up to the two football clubs to erect the fence at their own cost, and also to remove same at the conclusion of the football season. We are tired of hearing Cr. Cook ably supported by his sparring pai'tner, Cr. Hakaraia, on the expenses incurred by players. There is expense in all sport, but most of the bodies refrain from leaning on the council. The trouble with the Otaki Club is the ridiculously low subscription of 2s 6d. No wonder the club never gets out of the rut it has been in for years. Make the players pay for their sport and you will get players who will take an interest in the club, and not want to be spoon fed all the time. When the proposal for improvements to Kirk Street, and .it should have included Bell Street and Riverbank Road, comes before the council, it is to be hoped Crs. Cook and Hakaraia show more intelligence over the matter than they have done over the domain. Yours etc., "NO IDIOT." Otaki, April 12.
