Bernhorough won oy a long head after what is described as the jtoughest race of his career. • Ilight got away from the- slower startmg jaemborougli and had a- hahdsome lead at the five furlongs. The big horse then made up ground quickly and was again a close second when rounding the iiome turn. As Flight fought cb , fioid the leaa, Bernborough's jockey applied the whip and Flight was alinoot crowded against the rail. Despite tne enforced cnecfis in tue last • furlong, Bernborough ran the last half-mile in 46 sec., and his time for the 14 miles was only £ sec. outside Beau Vite's Australian record. With seven wins * in succession, Bernborough . is now hailed as Australia' s horse of the day. What is described by the Telegraph as the worst demonstration in New South Wales turf history obcurred after Murray Stream won the Liverpooi Kandicap. The horse was hustled into a lioat and taken from the course after being escorted by the police. One demcnstrator leapt the feuce and hauied up the protest flag.
