LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
-r-r GPEN BISCUSSION FORUM Sir,— ' The Levin Open Discussion Forum, at its recent meeting, dissussed the subject of consumers' ' co^operatiyes. it was claimed that m Britain these co-operatives ha.d saved 2s in the £1 bh purchases by its mem-. ;bers. O.thers contended that eonsumers' co-operatives representea . i rather futHe f orm of escapism. from the ciutches of a monopoly proflt.eering system, instead ot try-, ihg. to, abolish it. It was furthei* heid that this c.apitalistic system had the power and the means tcsqueeze that 2s out of the wa.ge •woxfeers ih other ways, sinee the whole c.apitalistic fabric rested- on the princi|)le of aho.wing just suffi--cient fodder in the hosebag of • the wa.ge woxker to. keep himself and family and no more. The general opinion of members was that in spite of almost .a century of such attempts at piecemeal ca-o,pera,tibn. th.e monopoly rac.ketee.r "was t.o-day ten times more powerful industrialiy and politicaliy :than ever before.
