CONSERVATIVE WIN IN JAP ELECTIONS
CO-OPEltATlON WITH ALLIED IDEAS ASSURED Received Friday 10.12 p.m. NEw VORK, April 12. The Conservative win in the Japanese eiections assures the country of a government which, in tlie next four j years, will cooperate without compul-i sidn with Britis'u and American iaeas : on 1 ar Eastern reconstruction, says i che New York Times' Tokio corres- 1 rJondent. The latest count rnakes victory certain for the Lioeral, Progressive and independent candidates, all of whom more cr less favour the same iueas. The results proved a disillusionment for those who helieved that the Japanese were ready to go Left Wing. The most outstanding development of the eiections was the demonstration of the power that women will hold in future politics. They comprised more than one-third of the nation 's total ; vote. A second notahle development from 1 the votes already counted was the tremendous unpredicted power of the Socialist Party. More than 1,000,000 voters had Socialists in first, second or third places. The Socialists must now be given more consideration than orgmally seemed necessary. Even the preliminary results, however, make it plain that the JapaneSe have no wish to change the Emperor.
