TE HORO STATE SCHOOL

QUESTION OF BUS ROUTE While the Wellington Education Board members were in Otaki yesterday they were waited on by Messrs. V. Cottle, T. Mansell, K. Spiers and J. Johnson, representatives of the Te Horo School. Members of the Otaki School Committee were also' present. Mr. Seddon explained that Te Horo desired a change in the school boundaries, and as tne board's representatives happened -to be in Otaki it had been agreed to meet them in conjunction with members of the Otaki School. Mr. Deavoll said that the matter of boundaries was before the board some time ago, but it had been delayed. It was the question of the boundary between the two -schools, Te Horo suggesting that Addington Road to the river should be in the Te Horo boundary, along the road to the east. This was considered to be a natural boundary. It was only a preliminary discussion, and up to the present the Otaki School had not been consulted. If there were any new boundaries they would have to be gazetted. It was pointed out that no matter where the boundary was a child could go to any school desired, provided there was accommodation. Mr. Taylor, chairman of the Otaki Committee, stated that five years ago no child from Katihiku attended any school, and that when Mr.. Adams was headmaster he had accompanied hirn on a visit to Katihiku and secured quitc a number of Native children.* Then the Sunbeam service was contacted and arrangements made for the conveyance of the children. It was pointed out by the Te Horo reprcsentatives that Ihe question of bus routes was Ihe main thing involvcd, and it was desired to have a,n extension, Mr. Ilendra agreeing to a ccrtain route on extra payment being made. Board members thought the question of alteration in the bus service quite reasonable. and agreed that the matter was oue that should-. not be side-tracked. It will now be sympathetically considered by the board, members present favouring the proposal. Messrs. Taylor and Cottle thanked the board members for visiting Otaki, while members of the board, in reply, thanked Te Horo and Otaki committeemen for the invitation to be present to discuss matters, and assured Te Horo that their request would be sympathetically considered.
