A State Depar'tment spokesman de clared that the United States wus aware that tl^ere were many German scientists working in SpMn and had repeatedly aske'd Spain to expel them. The spokesman added that the State Deparfcment understooa that the German-owned Siemens-Halske plant at Bilbao pcssessed facilities for atomic research, and that radar research was beigg conducted in several Germanowned laboratories. .
