INVESTITURE SERVICE IN WELLINGTON

It was a greal occasion for members of the Yelierable Order of St. John of Jerusalem when the first public im vestiture serviee to take jjlace in Wellington was held in a iilled Town Hall on Tuesday night. The investiture oi over 40 members, in many eases for outstanding serviee during the war, was carried out by the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, who is Knight Gommander of the Commaiulery in New Zealand. Several hundreds of members in uniform, including a baekground to the stage of nurses in seariet and grey, made a most impressive spectacle, and earned the commeudation, for the work of the Order in New Zealand as a whole, of Lady Louis Mountbatt'en, who is a Commander of the Order. Greetings from Her Vlajesty the Queen, who is eonimandant-in-chief of Uie Nursing Division of the iSt. John Ambulance Hrigade, were conveyecl to New Zealand members by Lady Louis, who also thankqd ihe members of the Order in New Zealand for their devotion to the work l>oth in peace and in war. "The febowship of »St. John," |she said, "is one of the groatest factors ifor the future ])eace and porsperity of tlie world." Among those invested as a serving brother was Mr. II. L. Jenkins, of Levin, district officer of the St. John Ambulance Hrigade, and among those privileged to attend the investiture were Mr. and Mrs. II. C. AVilson and Miss Ava Wilson, of Palmerston North, Mr. Wilson having been district superinfendent during the difficult war period.
