He was a long way in front as 1k jumped the last fence and made for llu course proper, but Lovely Cottage anu Jack Finlay, wliich were both well back for the greater part of tlie race, madt up a lot of ground in the final nnie ant. caught Prince Regent 011 the flat anu beat him honie, Lovely Cottage winning by four lengths from Jack Finlay, win. was two lengths in front of Princi Regent. Ali the French challengers failet ' badly, one of them, Symbole, falling early and breaking his neck. Lovely Cottage was ridden by the noted amateui' joclcejq Captain Roberi Petre. Cottage, sire of the winner, was by Tracery. Cottage did very little as a sire of flat performers, but his stock have been one of the most suecessfui breeds in National Ilunt racing in Sng land. Ile sired a previous Granri National winner in Workman, ,who scored in 3939. Cottage was bred in 1918 and died in 1942. Ilis dam, Osetta, was by Marco from Creme Simon by St. Siinon from Settlement by Bend Or.
