CIVIC WELCOME HOME TO-NIGHT
To-night the Regent Hall' will no doubt be filled to cauacity to do honour to some eighty % retuvned service personnel, who |l f are being officially. welcomed ^ /■ home. The speakers will be '/* His Worship the Mayor (Mr. .H. B. Burdekin), Mr. H. J. Lancaster, president of the Levin R.S.A., and Mr. L. G. Lowry, ■' M.P. The function will take the form of a concert and dance. A very fine programme has been arranged, equal to anything that' has been seen in Levin before. Those who attended the last civic welcome function will remember the high standard that was set then, and it is expected that it ■ will be even better on this occasion. Special interest is attaehing to the appearance a ventrilo- ■ quist, who appeared with great success before the N.Z. troops overseas, and also Padre Datson will be there with a new series of illusions and magic. The Amazing Mr. Rooklyn has nothing on the Padre in his skill as a prestidigatateur. Excellent supporting artists will apnear in the person of Mrs. Welsh, Misses Bowden and Lind, of Shannon, and Mr. Frank Baumber. Mr. and Mrs. . Bowater will be seen in a most amusing sketch, and the Swing Stars Band will be heard in new numbers. Surmer will be provided for all, and a dance will follow with music supplied by the Swing Stars Band.
