On behaJf of the people and the Government of Nevv Zealand, tlie Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), who presided, thanked liis Exoelleney for the helpfnl and able manuer in vvliieh he had discliarged his onerous duties. Regret that tlie time had come for him to say farewell to New Zealand Was expressed by his Excellency, who paid high tribute to New Zealand 's war effort both overseas and ou the hoine front. An apology for his unavoidable absence was received from the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. o. G. Holland), who was to have beeu oue of the speakers at the funetion. Fog at Wigram had gf ounded the airefaft in whieh he was to liave travelled from the South Island. The Prime Miiiister read a telegram from Mr. Holland expressing sincere regret that he was unable to be present to express appreciation of his Excelleiiey's splendid services to New Zealand *uid the Empire.
