Personal ' ' The friends of Mr. Ron Thwaites, late of Shannon and now of Miramar, will regret to learn that he is seriously ill ,in the military hospital, Lower Hutt. During the war Mr. Thwaites saw service on ' the stafl of a hospital ship and returned to New Zealand a few months ago. Motor Accident at Opiki A collision, whicn could have resulted in a very serious accident, occurred on Saturday afternoon when a car driven by Mr. C. Guerin and containing Mr. F. Grey and Mr. W. Guerin as passengers, was struck by a truck on the bridge over the Tokomaru Stream on. the Opiki Road. The car was badly damaged and the occupants suffered cuts and bruises, but were not seriously injured. It is understood that the occupants of the truck were not hurt. E.P.S. Women Thanked When the Shannon E.P.S. organisation was disbanded .at the completion of the war, the ladies committee had much in the way , of medical supplies and other articles on hand. It was decided to forward these supplies to the Services Convalescent Hospital at Rotorua, through Mrs. J. D. Campbell of the Shannon Red Cross. A few days ago Mrs. Campbell passed on a letter she had received from the acting matron of the hospital, thanking the women's committee for the case of assorted articles and three stretcher covers.
