FUNCTION AT FOXTON
There was a good attendance of bowlers from the southem portion of the Manawatu Bowling Centre at Foxton on Saturday afternoon to do honour to the former centre president, Mr. .T. A. Nasli. Kev. 3Lr. Datson, president of the Foxton Bowling Club, was in cliarge of the proceedings and referred to the great work that 3Mr. Nash had done, for bowling in this centre and his long association with the game. Mr. Datson mentioned Mr. Nash's success as a bowler in the many competitions he had won, iiK'Iuding the New Zealand fours championship. He said it was thoughl that nothing lietter could be done than to present Mr. Nash with an address which would always remind him of his many friends in the centre, and he trusted that he would be spared for a long time still to enjoy the game. Mr. Mclvay, of the Levin Club, referred to Mr. Nash's interest in thoi countrv clubs and said that he had j many friends in the Levin Club who | were proud of what he had done for bowling. Mr. Barton (Levin Central Club) said they would always remember the late president and the visits he had paid to them, and he Wished to thank him for the 30 vears' service that he had rendered as president of Ihe centre. .Mr. Christie (patron of the Foxton Club) said he had served on the centre •for a number of years under Mr. Nash, whose whole work was wrapped up in giving pleasure to bowlers generallv. The large number of visits j;hat had been paid to other centres and the enjovable time spent would always be remembered. IMr. M. Perreau, as a former Mayor of Foxton, paid a tribute to Mr. Nash for his publie work. He said Mr. Nash had given devoted service to the welfare of Palmerston Nort.h, l>oth as Mayor and member of Parliament for very long periods; many other in.i«Litutions and organisatious in Palmerston Nortli had also benelited from his administration. They iri Foxton were proud of him because he was born there. IMr. Nash, in reply, said he had been somewhat overwhelmed, fii'st by tlie large and representative gathering of bowlers in Palmerston Nortli quite recentlv, and now by this one at tlie southorn end of the district. He said he would treasure the address for which he thanked them very sincerely. He had played bowls "for 51 years and loved the game, and would always look back with pride and pleasure on the 30 years he had been president of the centre. fle was glad to know that his services I had been appreciated in the holding of j these two gatherings. He had made a • host of friends and he trusted that they would all be able to iningle on the various greens for many years to eome. An apology was receiced from the Shannon Club whicli was unable to be represented because of visitors to its green.
