Personal On Friday their Excellencies the i Governor-General and Lady Newall, accompanied , by. their younger daughter, Miss Diana Newall, visited Tatum Permanent Scout Camp, Manakau, where they each made a token planting of birch trees in connection with the presentation by the .Governor-General of - trees for the entrance drive to the park. Mr. and Miss Bond, Lower Hutt, are spending *a vacation in Otaki. Several weddings of local interest will take place in Easter week. The friends of Mrs. Gaby will regret to learn that she is still in a very indifferent state of health. Mr. W. Rzoska, after being overseas, resumed duties at the Otaki Post Office this morning. Rev. Father Cheesman, S.M., is conducting a Mission at St. Mary's Church, Otaki. Mrs. A. Davidson, Manuka Street, has returned from an enjoyable holiday in Wellington. Miss E. Chennells, Carterton, has been appointed dental nurse for the Otaki district. Mr. and Mrs. Digby-Smith have returned to their home in Wadestown after a pleasant vacation in this district. The death occurred yesterday at her residence, Otaki, of Mrs. Cleary. aged 61 years. The deceased was well-known and highly respected, and much sympathy is expressed for her relatives and friends. Bowlers Disappointed The bowling match between Otaki and Levin, to haye been play-ed on Saturday at Levin, had to be postponed on account of the wet weather. Sports Gate £25 As a result of the -Otaki A.A. and C. Club's sports on Saturday the sum of £25 was taken at the gates, which would have been considerably more. had the club been favoured with fihe weather. With the sale of programmes and part proceeds from refreshments, the sum will be sub- ■ stantially increased. ' Croqiiet Official's Visit Mrs. Bryant, official handicapper of croquet for the district, paid a visit to the Otaki green recently to give a demonstration of tricky shots to the new players, and also to explain the rules, which are being modified from time to time. The president, Mrs. Lowry, thanked Mrs. Bryant- for her kindly interest in the club, stating that Mrs. Bryant was never too busy to assist players who were_ willing to learn. A delicious afternoon tea was provided by the members of the Otaki Club.
