KAIRANGA FARMER IN CAR CRASH

A lucky escape irom more serious injuries than he actually received, was experieneed by Mr. Gordon Burmeister, farmer, of Kairanga, when the car he was driving along Rangitikei Line last night in the vicinitv of Newbury, left the road and, crashing through a fence, ended up two chains inside a paddock after having rolled over several times. Mr. Burmeister was proceeding towards Palmerston North and at a bend in the highway labout a mile on the Awahuri side "of the. Newbury cheese faetory, he overtoolt a car driven by Mr. .n. \V. iiay, of Palmerston North, who reports that Mr. Burmeister scemed to lose control just after .the car had gone past. It left the road, jumped a sniall watertable, crasared through the fence which apparently caused it to turu over, and the momentum kept it rolling. It linished up on its side and the engine canght flre. Mr. Burmeister was dragged from the vehiclo and the lire was quickly put out, but nevertlieless the car had been extensively daniaged, the liood in particular being completely wrecked. Mr. Burmeister, who had regained consciousness, was taken to tlie Palmerston North llospital by ambulance, the autliorities there reporting that he was sull'ering from uotliing worse than concussion and lacerations of the scalp. His condition was described as satisfactory.
