FIRE BRIGADE MEETING
The fortnightly meeting of the Shannon VoluhtCer Fire Brigade was held in the meeting room of the fire station on Monday evening, the superintendent - (Mr. C. Wishart), presidi'ng. Also' present were: Deputy-superinten'dent D. Gyde and Firemen D. Richards, C. Tremewan, B. Coulter, N? Richards, E. Hook„W. Clough, G. McEwan, F. Clough and W. S. ForbeS. Firqman N, Retter was granted leave of abserice from the meeting. : *' . A letter calling attention to nominations for the 1946 conference, to be held at Wairoa, was receiyed. The resignation of Fireman H. Hermansson, who has left the district, was received with regret. The superintendent and ofcher meiubers of .the brigade spoke of the tjodd work that Mr. Hermansson had done during his service with the brigade. . . It was decided to advertise for two volunteer messenger boys. Mr. Wishart explained that the duties of the boys would be to assist the firemen during a fire. They would receive the privileges usually given to firemen, and would be entitled to the firemen's medal which is given after five years service. • A motion that the book's in the brigade library were now out-of-date, and should be disposed of in order to make way for extra sealing in the meeting room, was carried, and it was left in the hands of Fireman Gyde to dispose of the books. '' Following : a discussion with regard to the erection of a roll ,of honour in memory of brigadesmen who lost their lives overseas, it was decided to hold the matter over until a later meeting. Fireman E. Hook was granted three weeks leave of absence.
