INSTALLATION IN MALAY Received Tuesday 7.5 p.m. SINGAPORE, April 1. Sir Edwards Gent was installed as Governor-General of the Malayan Union at Kuala Lumpur. No Malayan rulers attended. In reference to their boycott of the (pstallation ce'remony, the Sultans sent 4/ message to the British military \uthorities stating that their representations against the Malayan Union proposals was still pending, and therefore they did not wish to do anything prejudicial to their case. Malavs wearing white headbands signifying mourning thronged the stieets during the ceremofiy. A salute of 15 guns at Singapore marked the end of military rule.
