WELLINGTON, March 20. ' ' Supplies of onions are plentiful at present in both the North and South islands, ' ' said Mr. E. P. Eraser, Director of the Internal Marketing Division, today. "The area pJanted in onions shows an increase, owing to plantings in anticipation 'of requirements by the Allied forces in the Pacifie which are not nOw needed. Some export has been possible to Canada and tho Pacitic Islands out of the erop just harvested, but shipping diliiculties have limited' the quantity to a ooniparativcly small tigure. Other overseas markets, including Great Britain, are well supplied from Egypt and other sources. "In order to encourage and increase the consumptiou of onions, it has been decided to institute a system of distribution of 1001b. bag lots to consumors through the customary retailers and merehants. Consumers may place an order for not more thau two bags of onions with their retailer, together with 17s cash for each bag. The retailer will pass the order on to the Internal Marketing Division, Palmerston North, for North Island orders, or Christchurch for South Island orders. The division will then hand all orders on to the onion committee of the Merehants' Association in these centres, who will allocate the orders to their members for despatch to the railway station nominated by the consumer, IThe priee of 17s per bag ineludes all •charges delivered. to the consumer 's railway station and is made possible dfcying t'o the special low rate of freighf ehar^d by the llailway Department or vcgetalJies for consumer 's domestk use only/-*
