Alaleinpre, considers it unlikelv l.liat land girls will receive gratuities. )She says there are several reasons for Lliis. * In the lirst^ place, land girls were not attested ihcmbers of the armed services in that they wero not roquired to swear an oath of allegiance. In additiou, they receivcd liighet wages llian menibers of tlie other women 's services. An untrained land girl reeeived a vveckly wage of £2 1*> on a dairy farm and £1 16s on a general fa rin, while a trained worker ob tui ned £2 Ns (id aiul £2 3s 6d. Further, memliers of Ihe Land Army were. provided with an allowairce of 4s a week to cover tlie rcplacemenf cost of clothes, an ailowance which was not given to anv other branch of Ihe women 's services. Tlie land girls did not receive free dental service, added .Miss Malempre. which was provided for all other mcnibers of tlie women 's services."
