WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

TE HORO'S BIRTHDAY PARTY The Te Horo Hall presented a festive scerie when the institute celebrated its fifteenth birthday. After singing the institute song and New Zealand National Anthem, about one hundred members and visitors from Levin, Otaki and Poroutawhao, the W.D.F.U. and several past presidents and foundation members were warmly welcomed by the president (Mrs. Grant) , who expressed' the hope that all would spend a pleasant afternocn. A varied programme of items, a competition presented by members' and elocutionary items by Mrs. Strong, of Wellington, were much appreeiated and enjoyed by all. Long well-filled tables were tastefully decorated with flowers,the outstandmg feature ' being a beautiful iced cake surmounted by 15 candles. All sat down to a sumptuous afternoon tea. In a pleasant little speech, Mrs. Grant called on past-presidents, Mesdames Jenkins, White-Scott and Jenson to li'ght and blow out candles and cut the cake, each conveying their best wishes to the institute. Floral tributes were presented by the presidents of Otaki and Levin Institutes and greetings from W.D.F.U. by Mrs. Walker. Several telegrams were received from those unable to attend.
