PINANCIAL DOES BEST An impressive effort over seven furlongs by Financial was tlie liiglilight of the fmal trials at Awapuni yesterday morning. Other candidates who pleased were Lady Spiral, Flying Robin, Gardane and Mesalliance. The course proper, with the pegs out 30 feet, was open for fast work, the going being excellent. Theiolyn (Waddell) opened proeeedin'gs by covering five furlongs in 1.6 1-5. The improving Mesalliance (Bowness) reeled off a smart three furlongs in 38 sec. Persuade (Saunders) was accompanied by a Saleve gelding over five furlongs in 1.7. The former was doing the better at the close, and her latest work su'ggests that she may be prominent in the Autumn Plate. The jumpers Kanui te Pai (Aitken) and Mynet (Stewart) completed the last live furlongs of their work in 1.9 4-5. The latter is well forward and should give a good account of himself I in the Kairanga Hurdles. Mary Jo I (Waddell) and Utility (Goulsbro) iinished on tenns over seven furlongs in I 1.36 1-5. The former is carrying plcnty of coiidition and should be improved with racing. Candidates for the Tamatete Handicap, Hormuz (Biggs) and Rink (Sellars), were companions over seven furlongs in 1.34 4-5, the last three being niu in 40sec. Flying Robin (Waddell) was travelling easily in front of Beau Son ( Jones),. with Glebefield (Saunders) beaten off at the end of half a mile in 54s ec., the last tliree furlongs being ruu in 39 3-5see. An interesting trial was that of the Awapuni Gold Cup candidates, Financial (Bowness) and Langue d'Or (Sellars). They came liome the last three in 39 4-5sec. and, although there was little betwecn them at the linish, Financial was doing it very easily. He looks an even better horse after his race last week and will set his opponents a difficult task tomorrow. Dileas (Amey) did well to run live furlongs in 1.5". He has fresliened up well and will make his reappearance at Easter. in a similar task, Tuis (Biggs) took 1.5 4-5. She now inakes a decided noise. The two-vear-old Cincture (Stewart) sprinted three furlongs in 3S 4-5sec; an improving effort. Dutch Mary (Saunders) and Gardene (Clutterbuck) were not ridden out to complete five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. Both look particularly well and should go close to repeatiug last Saturday \s suct'esses. A Sound Seven. I Lightly weighted, Roman Duke (Teiu- -■ perton) hit out in good style to place seven furlongs behind in 1.34, the last ! three in 40 4-5sec. Dark ' JMorning (Temperton) shaded Endurance (Gregory) at the end of five furlongs in l.S 1-5. Martara (Pearce) proved too good for Gay Stitches (Bowry) and Grand Affair (Gregory) over live furlongs run in 1.0 2-5. Lady Burford (Collins) impressed ' more than Ruling Maid (Aitken) over half a mile in 54sec. Bold Raid (Bowry) and Flying Dink (Pearce) reeled off three furlongs smartly in 38 2-5see. On the No. 1 grass, Lady Hilton (Goulsbro) hit out over live furktngs in 1.5 1-5. On the plougli, Duplicitv (Aitken) was under restraint while running live furlongs in 1.6. Peach King (Pearce) moved freely over seven furlongs in 1.36 4-5. He was showing signs of lamenfcss after racing last Saturday, but now appears to have got over the trouble. Lady Spiral (Waddell) and Roto Parera (Christensen) were companions over seven furlongs in 1.33, witi. the former appearing to have plenty in reserve. She promises to take a power of beating in the principal event tomorrow. Bettennan and Bettermusk (Aitken) came home the last three furlongs of their work in 41sec. Glen Urquhart (Clutterbuck) was not troubled to record 1.6 for live furlongs. Kauri Queen (Temperton) worked well over half a mile in 52sec. She went a eroditable race last week and is not without prospects. Thunderhead (Bowry) led Merry Robin (Pearce) over live furlongs in 1.7 1-5. The former appears to have bccome affeeted in the wind. Jumpers School. Airpier (Bowry) easily accouuted for West Meatli* (Pearce) over live furlongs in 1.5 1-5. Young Margaret (Bowry) cleared out from Twitch (Pearce) and Royal Duce (Stewart) over the concluding stages of live furlongs run in 1.5. Sky King (Rout) schooled over four hurdles and was responsible for a much improved display. Te R^iru (Rout) and Arabic (Jenkins) were to have jumped four hurdles in company, but the former came to grief at the first. Arabic continued on to jump the remainder safely. Te Ruru was later sent ou his own, but gave an erratic display.
