First Day's Form Might be Reliable
To-morrow's Fields Reviewed
(Special — From L. M. M.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The second and concluding day of the Manawatu Racing Club's autumn meeting at Awapuni tomorrow has again drawn exceptionally good fleids, which include a number of fresh horses. The only disappointment is the poor response received from owners in the Awapuni Gold Cup, a weight-for-age event being revived after a lapse of four years, there being four contestants, all liandicap horses. First day's form was a little tricky, but it might prove fairly reliable to-mor-row. Some of the horses expected to show up last week met with rocky passages and better served they should make amends to-morrow. The track is reported to be in excellent order, and with win and place betting speculation should be brisk. New Deer, an extra smart galloper from Marton, is a fresh horse engaged to-morrow. He will be making his last appearance among the hacks when he contests the Lockwood Handicap to-morrow. The shorter distance in the Tamatete Handicap should suit Lady Spiral, but Battle Dance showed by his excellent finishing effort last week that he is not far short of his best. Others to hold good prospects are Fetcr's Choice, Hormuz, Rink, Capronclla and Cinna Bay. The open sprint reads like Gigli being Tuis's most serious opponent, but a surprise might be in store with such good sprinters engaged as Derryogue, Listen In, Arco, PoMarama, Theiolyn and Lady Nahleen.
