The Ministry of Food ahnounced that Britain is purchasing all the beef, inutton, bacoh ahd ham Canada can spare. in 1946; also pfobably for the years 1947 and 1948. This was agreed at a conference between the British Ministry of Food (Sir Ben Smith) and the Canadian Minister of Agriculture^ Canada is doing it's utmost to maintain supplies as high as possible. The present cohtraet for supplying 125,000,000 pounds of cheese yearly will be extended for another year, and 6O0,OOO cases of powdered milk yearly will be supplied until March, 1948. In 1947, 1,750,000 cases of shell eggs and 5000 tons of dried eggs- will be supplied. The Ministry emphasised that the purchases will not make any 'imihediate difference to rationing in Britain. Sir Ben Smith, answering Mr. Eden in the House of Commons, said a fegrettable error had been made in announcing tbat reductions in fat rations were pending. He had taken steps to see that the error was not repeated. The Ministry of Food has announced that the non-priority milk ration will be increased on April 7 from 2\ pints.
