EYENING' SPORTS MiEETING There was a good number of spectators at the evening sports neid at the domain on Wednesday evening by the otaki A.A.. and u. Ciub. Competitors were keen, and as usual * the handicapping and starting gave every . sauisiaction, while finishes of vari'ous events were interesting. Ofliciais present vvorked well. Following - are the results: — Half-mile cycle : Street (75 yds) 1, Mudgway (60 yds) 2, Hurley (50 yds) 3. Also started: Gray (45 yds), Mathie (50 yds).- The riders were well together after the first lap had been covered, but Street, riding nicely, held his position to win by a narrow margin. Open 100 yards: Z. Gray (9 yds) 1, W. Hodges (1 yd) 2, Casey (3 yds) 3. There were seven starters and the fiiiish proved a closely-contested one. v Ladies' 100 yards handicap: Miss Merwood 1, Miss Johnson 2, Miss Hakaraia 3. . •One mile cycle: The starters in this event were Blonifield (scr.) , .iones (30), L. Hughes (40), Gray (90), Hurley .(100), Mathie (120), Mudgway (120) and S. Hughes (175). From the start Hughes, Mathie, Hurley, Gray,-"' Jones and Mudgway led, leaving Blomfield to tail the field. Gray went into the iead for the next lap, followed- by S. Hughes, Jones, Hurley, Mathie and- Mudgway in that order, and Open 220 yards : There - were behind. In a ciose finish Jories won. nicely, with Gray second and S. Hughes third. Junior 100 yards: L. Merwood 1, Hakaraia 2. Only starters. Both showed pace and the finish was a ciose one. Open 220 yards: There were seven starters, but N. Gordon proved too fleet of foot for the others and won nicely. Z. Gray was second and Casey third. Junior 220 yards: Merwood 1, Hakaraia 2. Only starters. A good race. Two-mile cycle: The starters were Bloomfield (scr.), Jones (40), L. Hughes '(60) , "Hurley " (150), 'Gray (150),- Mathie (180), Mudgway (200) and'S. Hughes (275). Mudgway was an early leader , • follQwed by Hughes, Mathie, Gra^ and Hurley, with L. Hughes Sihd 'Bloomfield well behind. Mudgway still held command on the next lap, but on the fourth lap was clos'ely followed by Grey, Hughes, Hurley, L. Hughes and Bloomfield in that order. Mudgway was still in the lead for a further lap, but on the bell, Grey, followed by Bloomfield, Mudgway and Hurley were the leaders. In the race for the line Bloomfield, ridipg in good style, won nicely, with Grey I and Mudgway next in order and j close together. j Open 440 yards: N. Gordon 1(4 yds) 1, Z. Gray (15 yds) 2, Mick I Gordon (16 yds) 3. D. Foster | (15 yds) also started. This was a : good race, nicely won, with the j others almost abreast. ! The points prize resulted: Bloomfield 15 (winner for the second time) , Jones 12, Hughes 9, Grey and Mathie 7 each, S. Hughes 5 and ; Hurley 4. ! It was announced that next Wednesday night would be the final; evening sports for this season. j Competitors were reminded of t.lm| | entries closing at an early date for , the big sports gathering.
