Received Thursday, 11.35 a.m.. NEW YORK, March 27. The Russian naval officer, Lieutenant Nieolai GregOroy-ich Redin, aged 29, who has been arrested in>ttfe United StateS:. by . the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was charged at Portland, Oregon, with obtaining information about the destroyer tender U.S.S. Yellowstone for the advantage of Russia, and with inducing another to obtain plans, documents and writing ■relating to a United States warship. He is also accused' of acting against the peaCe and dignity of the United States. Redin demanded to see the Soviet Copstil. H'ei-was remanded without bail. The United States Navy deseribed the Yellowstone as a new type of destroyer tender^ and termed it the "floating navy aid," capable of all kinds of repairs. Redin had been head of the Soviet Purchasing Commission Office in Seattle since the staff was curtailed at the end of the war. A Canadian police official said that Redin's arrest had nso connection with the Canadian espionage- cases.
