Personal Miss Patricia Miles and Miss Jean 3teele, of Rangiora, South Island, ire at present on holiday in Otaki ; is the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. 3eal, Domain Road. The interment took place of Mr. , Tory Walter Spooner in the soldiers' plot at the Clareville Cemetery. The ioffln was draped with the Union Jack and a wreath of mountain ferns was placed on top. The pallbearers were four brothers, Messrs. Neville, Bryan, Wally and Lawrence Spooner. Messrs. Laurie Compton (a cousin) and William Wilson, represented the R.S.A. The Rev. W. J. Couling officiated at the graveside. The late Mr. Spooner was well known in Otaki and Te Horoy where he resided for a time. Seven-a-Side Rugby There is a prooabi'iity that the Pirinoa (Wairarapa) football club wiil enter two teams for the seven-a-side tournament at Otaki at Easter. Golf Club's Opening The Otaki uoii Cluo will open its season on Saturday next at 3.30 p.m. A Canadian foursome will be played over nine holes. It will be a general tea-day. The season promises to be a very successful one, and it is anticipated that all members and intending members will be present to take part. Land for Building Speaking at the officiai opening of the Commercial Gardeners' building in Otaki on Friday evening, the Mayor, Mr. Atmore, expressed the hope that it would not be the-policy to take rich fertile land for build,ing purposes. He instanced land that had been producing during the last 35 years and was still growing rirst class crops. Federated Farmers Mr. V. J. Cottle, chairman .of the Otaki — Te Horo branch of N.Z. Federated Farmers, in his remarks at the official opening of Otaki District Commercial Gardeners' premises, ventured the opinion that the -Federation was destined to become a power in the land, with psychological effect on Government Departments and Ministers. Gardeners' Produce When oflicially opening the Otaki District Commercial Gardeners Society premises last Friday even,ing, Mr. B. Cooksley stres§ed •'disabilities of disposal of gardeners' produce compared with that of other classes of production, and the consequent losses in the highest perishabl'e class of produce. It had 110 overseai market for surplus production as had other produce s.uch as dairying.
