Maori Axemen
.An initial move to'send a team of Maori axemen to compete in Australia has been made by a Taumarunui resident who has v/ritten to the secretary of the Royal Agricultural Society of Austraiia. The writer, a former Australian; has suggested that a team of five Maoris "compete in the society's. show next year. "In this district we have some of the finest axemen in New Zealand," the letter stated. "I feel sure that with some encouragement from vour association, the New Zealand .Tourist Department would sponsor a special visit from our men." The writed added that he considered a team could be sent which would be capable of winning. the major prizes. >
