FAMILY BENEFITS

^ — APPLICATION S SATISFACTORY With reference to a statement made by the Minister of Social Security (Hon. W. E. Parry) to the effect that applications for the uhiversal family .benefits of 10s per week for each child have not come forward as promptly as expected, the Shannon postmaster (Mr. W. Behrens) stated yesterday that applications are coming forward quite promptly to the Shannon Post Office, a'nd he thought that all entitled to the benefit in this district would have their application in by the day of the first pay-out. For the benefit of those who have not already made application, they are reminded that the first pay-out of the universal family benefit will be on April 11. Unless application is made before the end of April, the family benefit cannot be paid for that month, because the law provides that the benefit commences not earlier than the first day of the month in which the application is received.
