SHANNON'S ANNUAL MEETING The nineteenth annual meeting ;of the Shannon, W.I. was held on Wecinesday al'tefnoon last, Mrs. C. Pedersen presidmg over an attendance oi 24. Apologxes were received from Mrs. Kernonan (Koputaroa), a member of tne executive, Mesaames J. Bovis, Free (Snr.) , T. King, R. * Roberts and M. Parr. Mrs. Uoomoes, a visitor from the Generaidme W.I., was weicomed. Sympathy was expresseu with sicK memoers, with best wishes for :a speedy recovery. To Mrs. C. Anderson, Misses Morgan, A. Sinclair, J. Doyle and Shirley Easton who are nospital patients, posies will be sent. Tne resignation of Mrs. C. Pedersen as president was received. Mesdames J. Sinclair and S. Pedersen were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Mana•watu Federation to be held at Longburn on April 30. ■ A very comprehensive report on the year's activities was read by the president and sincere thanks were expressed to all members for their support during her term of oifice, especially to the committee for its excellent work, to Mesdames Bovis, S. Pedersen and J. A. Easton for carrying out the duties of secretary, to Mrs. C. Stern (treasurer) and to Mr. F. Thurston for auditing the books and his many kindnesses to the treasurer. The secretary (Mrs. J. A. Easton) reported that the - past year had been a very busy and successful one, despite losing many good members who had left the district. Members had worked with the R.S.A. in giving the boys going overseas a social evening and extending a welcome home 011 their return. Parcels had been sent to them while overseas, and the dinner on Anzac Day for returned men was well attended. The treasurer (Mrs. C. Stern) revealed that the finances were in a healthy state, there being a credit balance of £4 5s iOd in the general fund, £46 0s llds in the soldiers' parcels fund, and the drama cirele was in credit to the extent of £11 11s 3d. A letter of appreciation is to be' sent to Mrs. M. Parr for the capablemanner in which she had run the: card evenings in conjunction with the R.S.A., and also to Mrs. Cane for judging the blooms each month. It was decided to send parcels to men going overseas with J-Force. No election was necessary and the following will hold office for the coming year: — President: Mrs. J. A. Easton; vice-presidents: Mesdames K. Thomson and E. Thorne; committee: Mesdames R. Lang, R. Roberts, C. Veale' J. Sinclair, K. Thomson, E. Thorne, M. Parr, C. Stern, W, Easton, A. Thomson, J. T. Bovis and I. Peni; secretary: Mrs. R. Roberts; treasurer: Mrs. C. Stern; auditor: Mr. F. Thurston; press correspondent: Mrs. Leng Ward; saies table: Mesdames J. Sinclair and C. Veale; correspondent to sick members: Mrs. C. Pedersen; tea host- ' esses' for April: Mrs. Allen and Miss Allen; room stewards: Mesdames Aislabie and Sinclair. Competitions will be for the best bag made from one old felt hat, a
prize for which will be donated by Mrs. A. E. Burling; and a lapel posy in white, suitable for Mother's Day. Competitions for each m'onth throughout the year, commencing in May will be for a thrift article, for which a points prize will be given. All members assisted with the afternoon tea, wheri" opportunity was taken by Mrs. J. A. Easton to present to the past president (Mrs. C. Pedersen) a posy, and in doing so congratulated. her on the very successful year, and thanked her for all the work she had put into the W.I. as president over the past two years. Mrs. Pedersen was accorded musical honours. Competition winners were: — Best bloom: Mrs. I. Peni 1, Mrs. K. Thomson 2, . Mrs. E. Thorne 3; sponge sandwich with filling: Mrs. J. Sinclair 1, Mrs. C. Veale 2. The silver cup w&s presented to Mrs. Veale for obtaining the greatest number of points, namely 38, during the year 'for competitions. The runner-up was Mrs. Sinclair with 28 points.
