Received Saturday, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, March 22. "I am convinced the nations do not want a new war, but only peace. I attach great importance to the United Nations Organisation as an important instrument for safeguarding peace and international security.'^ Moscow radio quotes Generalissimo Stalin as saying this to the Associated Press of Great Britam's correspondent. Stalin added: "The strength of the United Nations Organisation consists of the fact that it is based on the principle of equality among states, not on the domination of some over cthers. I believe the present fear of war has been brought about by the activities o£ certain political groups, who occupy thernselves with propaganda for a new war, and who are sowing the seeds of discord and lack of confidence." Stalin did not name the groups to which he referred. Stalin said that if the United Nations continued to pre- J serve the principle of equal rights, it was undoubtedly playing j a great and positive role in the cause of guaranteeing peace. Therefore, the present fear of war was not caused from that quarter, but from the activities of political groups. The correspondent asked what should freedom-loving countries do to preserve peace. Stalin replied. that the public and ruling circles of powers must organise a wide counterpropaganda against the prcpagandi>ls of a new war, so that not a single act of these propagandists should remain, and so that the instigators of war may thus be exposed in good time and have no chance of mi^using freedom of speech against the interests of peace.
