MARKET REPORT
Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, Wellington, advise that since last reporting larger quantities of peaches have been avaiiable and in many instances have been affected with brown rot, thus f orcing sale by auction upon their merits. Tomatoes, however, have been in extremely short supply, ceiling price being readily obtainable for all first grade fruit. Quinces, Meyer lemons, grapes and plums have all been in demand. Flower saies have again been well attended, seasonal blooms being placed to advantage. Most varieties of vegetables 'have also been sought, values showing _ an increase on those quoted last period. Poultry aiictions have been well attended, prime birds again being placed to advantage. Quotations are: — Peaches (according quality), 5/3, 12/2; tomatoes, ceiling price, keen enquiry; quinces, 11/-, 15/6, 3/4 case; Meyer lemons, ceiling; plums, ceiling; grapes (outside), 1/4, 1/8, (hothouse) , 2/3, 2/8 lb; cape gooseberries, 1/6 lb; passionfruit, 15/-, 22/-; chillies, 7/-, 9/-; eggfruit, 17/6 4-case; beetroot, 8/-, 12/-; celery, 10/-, 15/-; cucumbers, 12/-, 18/-; rhubarb, 9/-, 15/-; spinach, 15/-, 18/-; leeks, 18/-, 24/-; lettuce, 2/-, 8/-; marrows, 11/-, 19/- c.ase; cabbage, carrots, onions, parsnips, pumpkins, swedes, ceiling; cauliflowers, 20/-, 28/- sack; beans (according quality and variety) , 5d, 1/4; peas, 8d, 1/1-1-d lb. Hens (heavy) , 7/-, 9/-, (light) , 3/6, 6/6; puhets (best), 11/-, 15/6, (others) , 3/6, 8/-; cockerels (according weight) , 2/-, 10/-; ducks (young), 6/-, 8/-, (old), 4/-, 5/-; geese, 7/-, 8/-; turkeys, 1/10, 2/2 lb live weight.
