GOOD HAND IN STAKES.
VyELLlN'GTON, .March 21. The. regrading of the southem end of Trentham racecourse has begun anu the course will not bo available for use again before the Wellington winter meeting in July. To componsate for the elosing of the course the inSide' trial grass, which has beeu little used for the last two years, has been reopened. Balclierrie was very sore after his fall at Trentham, but he is expected to he in work again shortly and will be prepared for racing at Easter. Probably he will compete at the Wairarapa meeting. » A dozen or so Trentham horses are expected to race at the Alanavvatu meeting this week. One of tliese is the hurdler Sandy Cape, wlio has been lirought up from tlie Soutli island to be prepared here in fulure. He seems fairly forward and if ready would have a great opportunity at Awapuni as the field in the Karere Hurdles is nol sti ong. Barrage and Leighon's Glory'aVe tlie only Trentham horses in the King George Handicap. Barrage looks the better prospect of Ihe two at a mile and a half, but Trentham form does not warrant one being confident in the ability of Barrage to beat Royal Victor, wiio, in fact, looks likely to be one of the hardest of the field to disposc of. Trentham is well represented in the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes, in which iis entrauts includc Alainnui, Zealander, Flying Robin and Prince Fox. Probably the best backed of tliese will be Zealander and Flying Robin, and it is worlh, meiitioning that Flying Robin has done pleasing work during the week. Caithness and Hormuz will contest tlie Adderstone Handicap. Hormu/. has not raced since New Year wlien lie rau third to Landvevor and ATiss Medlev in a mile and a half handicap at Ellerslie. He might be Ihe better for a little racing and probably oue of his next outings will be in the Hawke's Bay Cup. Better fancied. on Saturday may be Gay Stroller. Gay Stroller failml at Trentham, but he is open to im])rnvement. Alastor Dash heads tlie seven furlong open sprint with the steadier of 10.3 and if he goes to the post he should "five tlie oppositon something to do to beat him. Tuis, a failure of late, rau a fair race on the seeond day a'l Trentham. The race looks open and difficult and is not oue that Trentham looks to with a great deal of confidenee.
