STOKER CHARGED
ASSISTING THE ENEMY LONDON, March 20. Stoker Henry Herbert Rose, aged 23, pleaded not guilty at. a F.ortsmouth courtmartial to three charges of -traitorously giving intelligence to the Ger~ mans. The prosecution stated that the Germans captured Rose when a uiotor tor-pedo-boat, in which he serv.ed, -was sunk off the Dutch co.ast in 1943. Rose gave information aho.ut motor torp.edoboats and radar apparatus and showed the Germans snapshots of Brj^ish^nayai ports and marked anti-aircraft guri sites on a map of Portsmouth. He indicated the whereabout of the Rritish trans-Channel railway gun, and Pi'ovided an eight-page type written ,dossier on the naval harbour facilities at Portsmouth. The' prosecution further alleged that Rose was later transferred to a war prisoners' camp where' he-hh* ed with British prisoners. froxn Itafy, with orders to collect information from them. He was repatriated in May, -1945, and was interrogated in August when he admitted working for the Germans, but said that he did so .only because he thoughi: he would, he abfe tg escape. ■ > i
