SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday eve'ning. Those present were: The Mayor (Mr. R. E. Downes) and Crs. W. Clayton, R. R« Lind, H. Aitchison, J. Curran, D. Higgie and C. Wishart. The borough foreman (Mr. F. Haley) was also present. An apology was received from Cr. Roach. A letter was received from Mr. T. M. Pratt resigning his position on the borough staff, and the application of Mr. A. Bentley for the position was accepted. ■ & The council gave approval to fix the seal on a sub-division of section 196 owned by Mrs. Butcher. A building permit for additions to her dwelling to the value of £285 was granted Mrs. W. Picard. The building committee reported on renovations to the dwelling of '•the borough foreman. Authority was given for the work to be carried out at a cost of £25-10/-. The town clerk was directed to enquire from the managing-secre-tary of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, firstly, if a person could be taken to the out-patients department of the public hospital for treatment without first consulting the district nurse or a doctor, and, secondly, if a person could be taken to the out-patients department of the public hospital for treatment if the district nurse or a doctor was not available. The town clerk reported .that the water supply intake repairs had been completed and th'e cost was £252-16-4. The engineer had passed the work and signed the necessary authority authorising payment of the amount due. The town clerk said the necessary authority for the raising of the loan was not yet to hand, but he had been in communi: cation with the secretary of the Local Government Loans Board in Wellington, and that board was meeting about the end of this mont'h. It was resolved that the sheep be taken off the domain so that the grass could grow for the forthcoming football season. The foreman was asked to inspect the borough drains. Arrangements were made for the calling of tenders for cleaning the borough drains. It was also resolved to ask the health inspector to inspect the railway stockyards and sump. t , The ranger is to be written to .asking that,+every • endeavour shouid be made to keep sheep and, cattle off the streets. i Accounts amounting to £327-16/-'were passed for payment.
