COMMISSION STARTS INQUIRY PROPOSAL'SO SCOPE OUTLINED

WELLINGTON, Marcn 21. The commission of which Mr. A. M. Gouicung, b.ivL, is cnairman is now inquiring into the proposal to add 3,615 acres to the present 2,565 acres of Upper Hutt Borough. The principal arguments for the proposal are the prospective increase in population, to which new industries are expected. to nuu severai hundreds; the desirability of extendmg the area to the natural boundaries in contrast to the present layout, in which two district ^vjiibiA- e-. population are joined oy a narrov/ waste of borough land; ana tne necesmty for unmed control to faciliate pianning before the sub-division of land .takes place. The proposed extension covers St. Patrick'g Coiiege lands, the Wellington Racing Club's course, and the Wellington Goif piub's course. The owners of these, as well as the Hutt County Council and individuals, mostly farmers, are opposing u'le Dorougn extension. The hearing, which opened yesterday, snouia conciude co-inorrow.
