DEATH IN WAIROA RIVER ! j WAIROA, March 20. ! The body of Alfred Arthur Gillies, 64, married, was recovered from the Wairoa River yesterday afternoon. | Gillies went for- a walk at six 1 o'clock in the morning and when he did not return by 7 a.m. fears were entertained for his safety. The police were communicated with, and they comrnenced dragging operations, the body being recovered from the river in the vicinity of the Frasertown bridge, late yesterday afternoon. Gillies, who resided at Oriental Bay, Weiington, had been an annual : visitor to Wairoa for the. past 20 years. At the inquest a verdict v/as returned that deceased had taken his i life while suffering from severe mental depression.
