PASSENGER-CARRYING ROCKET PLANES ENVISAGED
PLAN BEING l'NVESTIGATED BY BRITAIN. Received Monday 9.30 p.m. LQNxX March 18. Britain is investigating a plan for winged passenger rockets with jet brakes to fly 100 miles above the earth. This was disclosed by the -director oi engine development in theMinistry of Aircraft Production (Air Commoaore Banxs) . Rockets would nave reversed jqts in front for slowing down and landing. Air Commodore Banks added that tlie R.A.F. Meteor squadrons v/ould be able t reduce- the ground stalfs by haif because of the simplicity of jet • engines. „ . .
