INVERCARGILL, March 17. The reeent statement by Mr. "F. P Walsh, secretary of the Federation of Labour, was very sound, said the Min ister of Supply (Hon. D. G. Sullivaii) at a meeting of the Southland Trades Council 011 Saturday niglit. The Minister added that Mr. T. Hill secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union, in his reply had expressed his doubts and suspicions, not because he was fuudanientally opposed to wliat Mr. Walsh had said, but because of the approval- that had been given to points made by Mr. Walsh by eneiuies of Labour. The fact that Mr. Hill looked with suspicion 011 approval of Mr. Walsh '3 remarks expressed from this quarter did not necessarily meaii that he was opposed to the fuudameiitals of the statement. Mr. Hill 's statement revealed that the Nationalists wero reaping the harvest of the tlistrust they had sown.
