HERITAGE TAKES UP CASE
R ?/ Tp.lec/Tfvh-
WELLINGTON, March 18. It was reported by executive members at a meeting of the Wellington branch of Heritage that mothers of children orphaned because of the death of their fathers on active service felt keenly the unfairness of their being deprived of the 10s weekly universal family allowance. The mothers had pointed out that had their husbands been living their total income would have been very much in excess of their present pension, and they would stilL have qualified for the family allowance. They considered it a_ definite hardship that they . were being deprived of it by reason of the rule that no person was entitled to two benefits. The executive decided to support the mothers in their attitude, and to press for an amendment to the legislation so that servicemen's widows would receive the 10s weekly per child in addition to their present pensions.
