ALL ABOARD TAKEN OFF

Received -Monday, 10.20 a.m. LONDON, March 17. The American ship Byron Darnton (7176 tons) ran aground near the Firth of Clyde and sent out an S.O.S. for immediate assistance. It was reported this afternoon that the vessel had broken in half. All the crew and passengers had been taken off. Four lifeJ boats, two destroyers, two landing craft and a tug were standing by to give aid at one. stage.
