MRS. J. M. KITTO.

. There passed away recently in Palmerston North in the person of Mrs. J. M. Kitto, a lady who had an iiitiraate and valued assoeiation with education ii the city. Coming to Palmerston North in the year 1890 as a tiny girl, Mrs. Kitto was one of the tirst scholars i. the College Street School. Completiug her primary education there she con tinued in the newly opened High Schoo.' and completed her training as a teachei at Vietoria University College, Welling ton, returning to College Street to com mence a long and useful caree in the teaching profession. Mrs Kitto 's chief sphere of aetivity, how ever, was at the Terrace End School where for over 20 years ihe was on tlu staff of the infant department. Possess cd of a genuine love and deep understanding of children, Mrs. Ivitto (thei. Miss Kathleen Billens), gave of he best and in return earned the aft'ectioi. of the hundreds who came under he. influence and have now grown to man hood and womanhood. Mrs. Kitto com pleted her service as infant mistress •. the Vogeltown School, New Plymoutii and in that town she niarried Mr. .J. M Kitto. After just over a year 's retire ment in Palmerston North Mrs. Kitt-. became seriously ill and passed awav leaving a wide circle of friends, au among them many of her former pupils with a lteen sense of personal loss l>u also the fragrant memory of a graeiom and unselfish personality. Mrs. Kitt' > is survived by her husand, her sisters Miss Mary Billens (Palmerston 'North) r Mrs. G. T.
