THEIOLYN AND SALUDOS PLEASE. Candidates for Trentham, Theiolyn and Saludos, pleased in their iinal gallops at Awapuni yesterday mornmg wlien conditions were against fast , times being recorded. Rain iell througiiout operations and' had the effeet of ihaking the going greasy. All galloping was done on the course proper, with the pegs out 40 feet. 'Theiolyn (Waddell) and Eink (Bowness) were paired over seven furlongs, the former just shading his coinpanion at the finish in 1.36, the last three taking 42 2-5sec. The former hit out very freely and was staying on solidly. He has been racing consistently of late and may be a lightweight prospect for the Hutt Handicap.

Airpier was under a good hold while running five furlongs in 1.15 4-5. The two-year-olds Alumnus and Lady Hilton were not impressive in a similar task in 1.12. Mesajliance was not required to do liis best over seven furlongs whicli took 1.45. Persuade and Tula required similar time. Thunderliead sprinted the last three furlongs of his work in 43 l-5sec. Candidates for the principal event, the President's Handicap, Saludos (Sellars) and Financial (Waddell) eovered a mile in 1.56 1-5, the last three furlongs in 43 l-5sec. The time was slow, but the former impressed by the easy manner 111 which he got through thc task. No fault can be found with his condition and he should prove one of the Kardest to beat tomorrow. Financial was be ing hard ridden over the concluding stages to stay on ternis and did not impress. A. G. Waddell has been engaged to ride him. Althougli doing it very easil.y, Voltaic ran five furlongs in 1.8. This promising youngster should soon reach the winning list. Liberalitv roeled off three furlongs in 43sec. Skilled took 44 l-5sec. Assisted by Kelmont over the last six furlongs, Lady Spiral (Waddell) completed a mile in 1.52 3-5. They ran the last five furlongs in '1..9 3-5 to finish on ternis. Lady Spiral is an acceptor for the President's Handicap, but is not a ecrtain starter. Bay Eobe, who appreciated the going sprinted three furlongs in 40 l-5sec. Prefa took 43 4-5sec, but was not required to -do his best. Cincture, who has yet to make her debut, strode over five furlongs in 1.12 1-5. Red Glare (Fagan) gave a sound exhiliition in a schooling bout over six hurdles. He is well forward, and is expected to plav a leading role in jumping events this winter. Although he has put in an ooeasiorial appearance on the track latelv, the grand juniper Foxiana is not to race again owing to the possibility of a permanent breakdown. Y. Sellars has been engaged to ride Saludos, Hiraji, Magic Art and Jonathan Jo at the Wellington meeting. Other engagements include: L. Oluttorbuck, Lady Spiral; H. P. Stowart, Conspicuous; N. Cava-ney, Kelmont; C. Bowrv, Merry Eobin.
